The Spirit Within explores the mystical statement: “There is a spirit in man, and the breath of the Almighty gives him understanding.”
Job 32:8
The Spirit Within explores this mystical statement and finds within it the secrets to peace, and a spirit-led life.
The Spirit Within is about the Love of God and His ability to communicate that love-His saving grace- to humanity throughout the world in every period of human existence. It explores how this unification of all people through Divine love is possible given the diversity of peoples, cultures, races, and geography.
When John the Revelator looked to the end of time through God’s prophetic lens, he saw a multitude no man could count - of all nations, tribes, peoples, and tongues - all rejoicing in their salvation. How could all these people, representing every part of the world through the millennia of time, have access to the knowledge of salvation? The Spirit Within addresses that question. |

First and foremost, it should be noted that author Jon H. Robertson has outdone himself by crafting a light and easy-to-digest read with The Spirit Within by effectively dispelling a number of misconceptions and spiritual traps regarding how Christianity is (sadly) often presented and perceived. Robertson redirects the reader towards his well-researched dissection of how to let spiritually get the most from God's word directly from the Holy Bible.
The pacing of each chapter is quick and efficient, while gently and constructively setting the record straight about a number of common misunderstandings of the Christian faith. Included in these are the facts that His salvation was intended for people living in all corners of the world, why Christians need to trade their "crippling guilt" for a truly joyful life, and the importance of attaining the peace that comes with self-control.

The most appealing aspect of The Spirit Within is how the book reads like a streamlined "Christianity FAQ" as opposed to a series of lengthy, bogged-down sermons. Because it is laser-focused on delivering faith-based facts as opposed to padding these essential findings. Many seeking clarity of thought would greatly benefit from reading a concise and well-researched message regarding faith. You'd be hard-pressed to find an author who has a greater gift for plainly laying out how...humanity can immediately benefit from a fuller life through God's love.
I would certainly recommend this book for lifelong Christians, as well as those looking in from the outside and are actively curious and open-minded about joining the Christian faith. Particularly due to how the author did a commendable job of pushing aside well-intentioned religious doctrines that have tainted how countless believers have understood God's true intent. He shines a brilliant and crystal-clear spotlight directly on the unquestionable meaning behind his word. There's no spin here, just simple and easy-to-digest explanations which will have lasting impacts on the reader - especially those chapters that explicitly explain how God's gifts to His followers are multifold. He includes not only salvation upon his death, but the gift of a greater life here on Earth.

John 3:16 states that God loved the world so much that he allows his only son to die in order to save all humanity. If true, how was this communication to the entire world, across all centuries, languages, and religions? Social media had not yet been invented.
For Robertson, the son of a powerful fundamentalist preacher in a household where "serious questioning and fundamentalism were not always compatible," the exacting question of how, literally, global communication of the Christian God's love and sacrifice took place weighed heavily. Then one day he came across this passage in Job 32:8: "But there is a spirit in man, and the breath of the Almighty gives him understanding." He'd found the answer. The spirit in man, of which Job spoke, is God's universal communication network, the Almighty Internet, if you will, which transcends all linguistic and geographic barriers. The intangible realm of "spirit" is acknowledged by virtually every religion, and we're genetically wired to experience it, or so science indicates. It is this spirit within, Robertson concludes, that draws God to all humans everywhere throughout time.
Robertson, a maestro with a doctorate from Juilliard, intelligently and persuasively corroborates this hypothesis with evidence from the Bible, carefully building his house of spirit with scriptures from Psalms (spirit and heart), Ephesians (spirit and mind), Matthew (spirit and soul), and others. Bible scholars will be fascinated. Laypeople will appreciate sensible analyses. such as one religious plan does not fit all. Through masterful interpretation of Bible passages, Robertson establishes that the spirit within man, placed by the Almighty, draws God's message of love and grace to all throughout the ages, thereby transcending the barriers to communication posed by geography, language, and individual religious affiliation. And since suggests we are sensitive to it, the existence of "the spirit within" is a plausible belief.
